Emoyamed Rehabilitation

What is Rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is the process of helping patients regain strength, function, and independence after illness, surgery or injury.
At Emoyamed Bloemfontein, we offer both Acute and Sub-Acute/Step-Down Rehabilitation, tailored to your unique needs.

Know the difference between acute and sub-acute Rehabilitation

Acute Rehabilitation

High-Intensity, Early Recovery Support

Ideal for patients who have just come out of surgery, intensive care, or experienced a serious illness or trauma. Multidisciplinary team approach with daily therapy sessions. Focus on rapid recovery and transition back home or to lower-level care.

Typically, involves patients with:

  • Stroke
  • Major surgeries
  • Neurological events
  • Serious injuries

  • Goal: Stabilize, build strength quickly, and prepare
for the next phase of recovery.

    Sub-Acute/Step-Down Rehabilitation

    Slower-Paced, Ongoing Recovery Support

Designed for patients who are medically stable but still require therapy before going home. Less intense than acute rehab, with tailored sessions several times a week.

    Ideal for:

  • Post-operative recovery
  • Orthopaedic injuries
  • Deconditioning due to prolonged illness or hospitalization
  • Often involves a longer stay with a focus on regaining independence safely and steadily.

  • Goal: Improve quality of life and functional ability at a

    comfortable, sustainable pace.
